Vikings Season 1 Wiki

The first season which was first aired on 3rd March 2013, could very well keep up with the expectations of the viewers as it showed how Ragnar could finally figure out the way which would help him to sail his ships towards the west. Another engrossing part of the season was when Earl Haraldson’s future is read, right after which he gets to know about how Ragnar is in search for his death. It also showed Ragnar’s meteoric rise to fame because of his exploits in the English countryside and his authority of his current position as Earl of Kattegat.

Vikings Season 2 Wiki

The second season of the series also left the viewers in awe as it depicted how the Wessex Viking raid is all set to gear up and King Ecbert is in absolute shock, as he gets to know about his new foe. The season also focused on the arguments taking place between Ragnar and King Horik and how King Ecbert eyes on an entirely new alliance. It gave us the opportunity to watch him tackle the challenges of ruling an Aett (or clan). Season 2 also deals with matters of faith, family, and international relations in an unforgiving era.

Vikings Season 3 Wiki

And the third season stressed on Ragnar’s embarking on an all-new journey of a king, and the ups and downs faced by his ex-wife Legertha, son Bjorn, brother Rollo and princess Aslaug. The gripping family saga of Ragnar, Legertha, Rollo and Bjorn continued as alliances and their loyal friendships were questioned, faith was catechized and relationships were strained. Vikings focussed on the extraordinary tales of the lives and epic adventures of these warriors and portrayed life in the dark Ages, a world ruled by raiders and explorers, through the Vikings society.

However, viewers were extremely overwhelmed when Vikings Season 4 hit the television screens as it took the story to another level.  The season depicted the return of Ragnar and his band of Viking brothers to Kattegat and another thing which the viewers had to look forward to the fourth installment was the budding closeness between Ragnar and his new slave Yidu.

Vikings Season 4 Recap: The Passing of Ragnar and Ecbert

The fourth season was equally awe-inspiring and shocking to all the fans watching the series because of all the deaths of main characters. After many seasons of riding, battling and outwitting everyone else around him, it was the end for Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). After returning to Wessex to seek revenge on King Ecbert (Linus Roache), Ragnar’s plans fell through when the waters overtook his boats and marooned him and his few men.Ragnar then began plotting his own death, striking a deal with Ecbert. This allowed his son Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen) to return home and tell his brothers of Ecbert’s mercy, forcing them to seek revenge on King Aelle (Ivan Kaye) instead. But Ragnar secretly told his son to target Ecbert in his final moments with Ivar, marking one final and the secret twist of fate for the Viking king.

As a prisoner, Ragnar was hoisted up in a cage, tortured and dropped into a pit of poisonous snakes while Ecbert watched from below. The way Ragnar was thrown into his grave with venomous snakes all over his body might have been extremely disturbing for his fans but Raganar did not fail to play his cards while on the death bed. Ragnar was giving the ultimate strength to his son Ivar when he said him that he should emerge as a powerful leader. It was tumultuous ending for a man who had killed so many individuals over the years.

Later Ecbert finally made his son Aethelwulf the ultimate king of Wessex. However, Ecbert became disappointed by the circumstances and he figured out only one solution to ultimate peace which drew him to commit suicide. And Aelle’s death caused due to the punishment of Blood Eagle was also one of the interesting parts of the season.

Another shocking death of the season 4 must be the death of Helga. She was known for loving Floki immensely and her disappearance from his life is surely going to make Floki’s journey tough. But Helga was killed by the same girl whom she adopted during a raid in Spain.

  • Later on, Lagertha killed Aslaug, which was again shocking to the viewers, for the throne of Norway after which she did rise to the ultimate glory.
  • Even Ragnar and Aslaug’s third son Sigurd was killed in that season by none other than Ivar when he was opposing of getting departed from his brothers.
  • Though they will be missed by many viewers in the upcoming season, let’s have a look at the cast of the season 5 who will make the series interesting and will be at the center of the story.
